BGS Bali blends the spirit of surfing with the warmth of coffee and the power of community.
Our Story
BGS Bali began when two kindred spirits met. Jordan, a wave chaser from Canada, and Komang, a true surfer since childhood, both saw the opportunity in Bali’s surf culture and relaxed lifestyle.
It all started in late 2013 when BGS opened its first store in Dreamland, Bukit Ungasan, blending the spirit of surfing with a unique lifestyle. The shop sold surf gear like t-shirts, caps, and other essentials. Jordan had years of experience running his own clothing brand in Canada. Together with Komang, they came up with an idea that would change everything.
What if they could bring the surf scene and a coffee shop under one roof?
Where Surf
Meets Coffee
Back then, there were plenty of surf shops and coffee spots but rarely both in one place. Surfers needed a space to wait for the perfect wave, connect with others, and refuel before heading out. The vibe was missing.
Jordan, with experience running a Canadian surf brand, and Komang, with deep local surf roots, decided to create something new: surf merchandise, coffee, and community in one space.
Growth & Milestones
The Humble Beginning
BGS started in a small room with only a fridge, a projector, and a three-meter table. It was part office and part hangout spot, but it planted the dream of creating a surf shop with real good vibes.
From the beginning, BGS felt like an embassy for the community. A place where everyone knew each other, just like in the classic TV show Cheers.
The Name Behind BGS
BGS originally meant Bukit General Supply, named after our first location in Bukit Ungasan. When new branches opened in Canggu, Uluwatu, and Kuta, the name evolved into Bali General Supply.
Many visitors, especially foreigners, thought BGS meant bagus (which in Indonesian means “good”). The nickname stuck and became part of our identity.
From a Small Store to a Growing Community
After Dreamland, BGS expanded to Canggu in 2017 and 2018, followed by Uluwatu in 2019. When the pandemic came, the Canggu store stayed open and became a hub for the local surf community. That moment showed us we could keep growing even in difficult times.
Today, BGS has more than five locations in iconic areas including Canggu, Uluwatu, Dreamland, Ubud, Kuta, and Banyuwangi. Each location has its own personality but they all share the same BGS DNA of great coffee, surf vibes, and a welcoming community.
Good Vibes Only
BGS is community. Customers and baristas know each other by name, say hi to each other every morning and share stories over coffee. Some call it family, others simply say love. Many describe it with four words that capture everything we stand for, good vibes and good coffee.
For us, these words are not slogans. They are the energy that flows through every BGS location.
